Creating tortie (tortoiseshell) color points in the Siamese breed requires a complex breeding process involving the introduction of the gene responsible for orange pigmentation. This gene alters solid colors such as seal, blue, or fawn, generating a mottled pattern where shades of red, apricot, or cream appear. Some variations may even display faint striping. In kittens, the full array of colors emerges gradually and may take up to a year to fully develop. The Seal Tortie-Pointed was the first officially recognized Tortie Siamese color in the UK, gaining breed status in the late 1960s.
