Although early 20th-century records mention some Siamese cats with tabby points, selective breeding to develop this variation did not commence until the 1960s. The first noteworthy tabby-point Siamese reportedly came from an unplanned mating that resulted in a kitten with distinctive tabby markings. Recognition as an official breed took some time; in the UK, the cat became known as the Siamese Tabby-Pointed, whereas in the US, it was referred to as a Lynx Colorpoint. Initially, only seal tabbies existed, but breeders have since introduced a wide array of beautiful tabby colors.
