About

The Siamese breed is shrouded in more myths and legends than documented history, and its true origins as the Royal Cat of Siam remain unknown. It is widely considered an ancient breed, with dark-pointed cats appearing in The Cat Book Poems, a manuscript from Siam (now Thailand) that may date back to the 14th century. The first recorded Siamese cats in the West appeared at London cat shows in the 1870s, and around the same time, a cat from Bangkok was sent as a gift to the first lady of the United States. In the breed’s early years, only seal points existed, but by the 1930s, new colors such as blue, chocolate, and lilac had been introduced, followed by additional variations later on. Over time, the Siamese cat's appearance evolved; traits like crossed eyes and kinked tails, once common, were bred out as they became show faults. More controversially, modern breeding has pushed the Siamese’s elongated body and narrow head to the extreme, giving it a highly angular look. With a bold personality and a loud voice demanding attention, the Siamese is the most extroverted of all cats. Intelligent and playful, it thrives in a family setting, offering affection as readily as it receives it.
