One widely accepted theory regarding this breed’s origins suggests it developed near the Russian port of Archangel, just below the Arctic Circle. Believed to have been brought to Europe by sailors, the Russian Blue had already gained interest in the UK by the late 19th century and had reached North America by the early 20th century. With its elegant demeanor and luxurious blue coat, it is unsurprising that the Russian Blue is now highly sought after. Although reserved with strangers, this cat offers quiet, devoted affection to its owners. Different coat variations of this breed have been developed under the name Russian Shorthair.
