Originating in Russia, the Peterbald is a relatively recent breed created through crossings between the Donskoy and the Oriental Shorthair. Highly variable in coat type, this cat may be completely hairless, covered in fine down, or possess a stiff, brush-like coat. Some kittens born with fur may eventually lose it as they mature, often retaining downy-coated extremities. The Peterbald is an affectionate companion that integrates well into family life. Hairless and thin-coated varieties require temperature protection and are best kept indoors. Their skin, often slightly sticky to the touch, needs frequent cleaning.
