About

Tortoiseshell Persians, commonly called torties, display a distinctive coat interwoven with two colors, resulting in a mottled effect. These cats have been documented since the late 19th century, though they have always been difficult to breed consistently. Due to their genetic composition, nearly all tortie-colored cats are female, with the rare male being sterile. A tricolor variant, known as the Calico (or Tortie and White in the UK), also exists.
