The first Chinchilla appeared in the 1880s, but it was the James Bond film series, beginning in the 1960s, that truly brought this breed into the spotlight when it was depicted as the pet of Blofeld, the super-spy’s arch-nemesis. Chinchillas possess a shimmering, silvery-white coat, with each hair tipped in black. The breed takes its name from the similarity of its coat coloration to that of the small South American rodent known as the chinchilla, which was once highly sought after in the fashion industry for its luxuriously soft fur.
