Before the 1960s, bicolor Persians were largely overlooked by breeders and were primarily considered pet-quality cats. However, today, they rival solid-colored Persians in popularity at shows. The first officially recognized bicolor combination was black and white—formerly referred to as magpie—though many other solid-and-white variations have since been accepted. In breeding bicolor and calico cats, achieving clearly defined, symmetrical markings is the goal, but this ideal remains a challenge.
