About

The development of this breed began in the 1950s with crosses between the Siamese and white shorthaired cats. In the UK, the first of these hybrids had either blue or orange eyes, but selective breeding resulted in exclusively blue-eyed cats, which were called Foreign Whites. In the US, both green and blue eyes are permitted, and the breed is considered a solid-colored variant of the Oriental Shorthair, named the Oriental White. This eye-catching breed retains the characteristic elongated lines and vibrant personality of the Siamese. Many white cats with blue eyes have a genetic link to deafness, but the Foreign White does not carry this trait.
