About

Despite its name, this spotted cat is not a hybrid of the ocelot—the wild jungle cat of South and Central America—and a domestic cat. However, its appearance might suggest otherwise. The Ocicat was an unexpected result of a 1964 breeding attempt to create a Siamese with colorpoints similar to the ticked coat of an Abyssinian. The first spotted kitten was initially just a pet, but later kittens contributed to forming the new breed. The inclusion of American Shorthairs added size and strength to the Ocicat. With an easygoing nature, these cats love companionship and are easy to care for.
