Developed in Denver in the late 20th century, the Nebelung descends from the Russian Blue and was selectively bred to recreate the longhaired blue cats admired in the Victorian era. Its name, derived from the German word nebel, meaning “mist” or “haze,” is a nod to its soft, shimmering coat. Naturally reserved, the Nebelung prefers a tranquil home environment and may not be suited to households with noisy children. However, with gentle handling, this breed forms a deep attachment to its owner, enjoying both companionship and the comfort of a welcoming lap.
