Among the many legends surrounding its origins, the tailless Manx is famously said to have lost its tail in an accident on Noah’s Ark—though in reality, it is a natural mutation found in cats native to the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea. Interest in the Manx has existed since the early 20th century, and along with its long-haired counterpart, the Cymric, it is now known worldwide. To prevent spinal issues linked with taillessness, breeding is carefully monitored. The Manx is a calm and gentle cat, trainable for activities such as playing “fetch” or walking on a leash.
