Shorthairs

About

Considered a symbol of good fortune in Japan, the Japanese Bobtail has long been a popular subject in ceramic figurines. In the 1960s, an American enthusiast spotted the breed and initiated a breeding program in the US. The shorthaired version gained recognition in the late 1970s, with the longhaired variant following about a decade later. A well-proportioned and attractive cat, the Japanese Bobtail is intelligent and sociable. Owners often claim that its soft, melodious voice gives the impression that it talks—or even sings—to them.
