At first glance, the European Shorthair strongly resembles a typical house cat. Primarily popular in Scandinavia, this breed originated in Sweden from common domestic cats. However, selective breeding ensured that only the finest foundation stock, chosen for color quality and conformation, were used. Unlike other similar breeds, such as the British Shorthair, this one has never been outcrossed to other lines. Strong and well-built, the European Shorthair is a dependable pet that thrives both indoors and outdoors. While sociable, it retains an independent streak and can be somewhat reserved with strangers.
