Also called the Don Sphynx, the Donskoy breed originated in Russia when a neglected kitten was rescued from the streets of Rostov-on-Don. Although it initially had an apparently normal coat, this stray lost its fur as it matured and passed the same trait to its offspring. The Donskoy exists in multiple coat types, ranging from completely hairless to partial coats that may be fuzzy or wavy. Notably, some hairless individuals develop temporary fur patches in winter. While its appearance—with wrinkled skin and large ears—may not be universally admired, this breed is cherished for its gentle, social, and affectionate personality. Regular bathing is necessary to remove excess skin oil.
