Though interbreeding between wild jungle cats and domestic cats may have happened naturally in the past, the Chausie originated from intentional hybrids created in the 1990s. Initially, jungle cats were crossed with various breeds, but today, to maintain uniformity in coat color and body structure, only the Abyssinian and select domestic shorthairs are used. Like other hybrid breeds, the Chausie is highly energetic and enjoys exploration. It is intelligent and extremely curious, quickly learning to open doors and investigate cupboards. The Chausie requires an experienced owner who can provide companionship and devote time to engaging with this active breed.
