When a lilac Burmese and a Persian Chinchilla accidentally mated in 1981, their kittens had strikingly beautiful coats, prompting their owner to continue selective breeding. This led to the Burmilla, a cat with elegant Asian proportions, large, expressive eyes, and a delicately tipped or shaded coat, with a longhaired variety available as well. Still uncommon, this intelligent and charming breed is steadily growing in popularity. The Burmilla retains the Burmese’s zany personality, softened by the quieter disposition of the Chinchilla. These cats love to play but also enjoy curling up on a lap for a nap.
