Shorthairs
Weight : Weight-8–15lb (3.5–7kg)
In 1966, in New York State, a wire-haired kitten was born in a litter from two domestic cats with normal coats. This kitten became the founder of the American Wirehair breed, which was later refined using American Shorthairs. The genetic mutation responsible for this distinctive coat has not been observed outside the US. Each hair in a Wirehair is crimped, bending over or forming a hook at the tip, giving it a coarse, springy texture comparable to steel wool. In some individuals, the coat can be brittle, necessitating gentle grooming—ideally by bathing—to prevent damage.
