There are multiple conflicting stories about how the Burmese cat reached the West. The only certainty is that in the 1930s, a cat of this type from Southeast Asia, owned by Dr. Thompson, appeared in the US and was used to establish a new breed. The first American Burmese cats were all rich brown in color, with additional colors being recognized later—though fewer than in the European version, which has a more Asian look. The Burmese is a wonderful family companion, always eager for company and attention.
