Since about the mid-20th century, reports of breeding domestic bobtail cats native to the US have surfaced multiple times. However, only this particular one has achieved full recognition. Available in both short-haired and longer-haired variations, the American Bobtail is named for its naturally occurring shortened tail. This breed is substantially built, possessing large bones and powerful muscles. Intelligent and alert, it maintains a balance between activity and quiet moments. Friendly yet unobtrusive, the American Bobtail adapts well to any household environment.
